Hurt is a part of life. We have all been hurt by people who are close to us. I think being hurt is one of the hardest things in life to deal with, it just takes your breath away; sometimes it’s so painful.
But I can’t imagine how painful it would be to be hurt by a child.
The other day I was reading Psalm 3 and realized this is a Psalm written when David’s son, Absalom, is after him. His son wanted the kingdom and was going at any lengths to get it. He had rallied people around him to mar David’s reputation. That had to be so very painful and hurtful, I can’t even imagine. Yet in the midst of this hurt, David reminded himself who God is…a shield around him, a lifter of his head, his security and victory.
And that’s what we need to do when we are hurt and others are coming at us. Because as David did that, his hard situation lost its grip on his life and he began to have peace. So much peace that he could lie down and sleep all night because he knew the Lord was protecting him. Peace that doesn’t make sense because it’s not dependent on our circumstances. It guards our heart and mind against despair even if our circumstances are still very hurtful. Now that’s some peace!
I don’t know what hurts are tugging at your heart today. Maybe it’s a close friend who has said hurtful things or family member who has failed you. But I do know that God can lift your head and give you peace in the midst of the pain. If you need prayer today for hurt you are dealing with, don’t hesitate to contact us! “O Lord, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me; many are saying of my soul, “There is no salvation for him in God.” Selah
But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head. I cried aloud to the Lord, and he answered me from his holy hill. Selah
I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the Lord sustained me. I will not be afraid of many thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around.
Arise, O Lord! Save me, O my God! For you strike all my enemies on the cheek; you break the teeth of the wicked. Salvation belongs to the Lord; your blessing be on your people! Selah”
