Have you ever felt like you’re disconnected from God, like maybe He’s forgotten you?  If I’m being totally honest, I have been wading my way through a bit of a spiritual dry spell right now.  I’m feeling a bit lost and directionless as I navigate new circumstances in my life. It’s been a slog for me, but I find tremendous hope in the story of the Israelite Nation and how they weave into God’s plan for salvation.  They too faced times of silence from God, they too wandered for great periods of time before they found themselves, once again, in the path of God’s Ultimate Plan.

There were 400 years of silence between the Old and New Testament.  There were generations where the People of Israel heard no new words from God as Heaven prepared for the birth of Jesus.  But even in that quiet, maybe desolate time, when the world felt like it was going down the drain, and it seemed as though evil was rising to Power, GOD WAS WORKING!  He was building the right stage for the most significant event in human history. (Luke 1:5-17)

When you don’t feel God’s presence, when you feel like hope is lost, when you’re alone and suffering, God carries on – behind the scenes He continues to set the stage for great events in your life, in your family, and in your ministry as a human being placed on earth with intention.  Not feeling it right now? I’m there with you… but let’s take a peek at these verses; the Bible tells us that in every circumstance, God has great plans in store:

  • Jeremiah 29:11;
  • 2 Peter 3:9;
  • Proverbs 16:4;
  • Philippians 1:6; and,
  • 2 Corinthians 4:17-18.

Maybe you’re feeling abandoned.  Maybe God has not answered your prayers in the way that you thought He should.  Maybe “just trust the process” sounds like the stupidest and most uninspired advice you’ve ever heard. BUT maybe we can turn that on its a head, we can look through a new lense…Perhaps God is not at all silent.  Perhaps in this quiet time, God wants you to hear His message – “get hungry,” “seek me”, “come find me!” Maybe that loneliness you feel is a deep hunger to be satisfied by God, to dig into the next step in your relationship with Him. Check out these verses:

  • Psalms 16:8;
  • Jeremiah 23:23-24;
  • Lamentations 3:21-23;
  • Acts 17:27; and,
  • Hebrews 10:22.

My prayer for you, dear friends, (and for myself) is that you (and I) could “trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and he will make your path straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6). Even when our feelings are not into it, we can trust that when we seek God we will find Him.  Perhaps the emptiness that we feel is truly God speaking to our souls – that spirit-hunger you feel might just be the motivation that you need to chase after the plans of God, to make choices that glorify him, and to praise him, even in the silence.
