I love the 23rd Psalm because I think it covers every life situation we go through, and how our Lord is so faithful to us. I, also, love how it describes Him as a shepherd.

He provides all that we need. We are never without. Even when we are in darkness, He is there. We may have to go through dark seasons, but He never leaves us alone. He walks through it by our side, right there with us. When we are busy and overwhelmed, He teaches us to be still and quiet. He let’s us catch our breath before we move on. He refreshes and renews.

And He doesn’t just care about the ones safely, securely at home. He cares when one wanders off. I don’t know about you, but I have wandered away from the flock many times. I am so grateful that He has come after me every single time. He fights for me. He chases me. What an overwhelming thought! I love the song “Reckless Love” by Cory Asbury. I love these lines in the chorus:

“Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God.

Oh, it chases me down, fights ’til I’m found, leaves the ninety-nine.”

I hope that you can take some time today to read these verses, and maybe even read them in several different translations. I know those of us who grew up in church probably heard this Psalm a million times, but today we can look at it with different eyes and learn something new! Know that your soul is safe no matter what because of our Good Shepherd.

The Lord is my shepherd, He feeds me and shelters me.
I have what I need.
He lets me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside quiet, still waters.
He renews and restores my life. He gives me new strength.
He leads me along the right paths for His name’s sake.
Even when I go through the darkest valley, the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no danger, for you are with me.
Your rod protects me and your staff guides me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. They can see me and all the blessings you give me.
You anoint my head with oil to be prepared for your service.
My cup overflows and I am ready to minister to others.
Only goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord always.
