Storms come into our lives in many ways. While it may not be a physical storm like a hurricane or thunderstorm, storms still wreak havoc in our lives. Storms can come and blow through quickly or last for what feels like forever!

There are many passages in the Bible about storms and ships. They are such a great visual of what the storms in our lives look like. Sailors are doing their job, going through life like we do. Then in the midst of the ordinary, day to day living, along comes a storm. The wind and waves rock the boats to and fro. Sailors hang on for dear life. Just like we hang on when the storms come and try to overtake us. We hang on to Jesus for dear life, waiting for Him to calm our storm. It feels like the waves will overtake us and we may drown. But then He comes in and speaks to that mess.

I love these passages from ‭Psalm‬ ‭107:23-30‬ ‭GNT‬‬:
Some sailed over the ocean in ships, earning their living on the seas. They saw what the Lord can do, his wonderful acts on the seas. He commanded, and a mighty wind began to blow and stirred up the waves. The ships were lifted high in the air and plunged down into the depths. In such danger the sailors lost their courage; they stumbled and staggered — all their skill was useless. Then in their trouble they called to the Lord, and he saved them from their distress. He calmed the raging storm, and the waves became quiet. They were glad because of the calm, and he brought them safe to the port they wanted.

We can find protection during the storm with Jesus!
“Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful, because I come to you for safety. In the shadow of your wings I find protection until the raging storms are over.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭57:1‬ ‭GNT‬‬

One of my favorite songs right now is “Tremble” by Mosaic. This song is so powerful and an anthem that gets me through difficult times. If you’ve never heard it, give it a listen! Here are the lyrics:

Peace, bring it all to peace
The storms surrounding me
Let it break at your name
Still, call the sea to still
The rage in me to still
Every wave at your name

Jesus, Jesus, you make the darkness tremble
Jesus, Jesus, you silence fear
Jesus, Jesus, you make the darkness tremble
Jesus, Jesus

Breathe, call these bones to live
Call these lungs to sing
Once again, I will praise

Your name is a light that the shadows can’t deny
Your name cannot be overcome
Your name is alive forever lifted high
Your name cannot be overcome

Jesus, Jesus, you make the darkness tremble
Jesus, Jesus, you silence fear
Jesus, Jesus, you make the darkness tremble
Jesus, Jesus

I don’t know what storm you may be walking in today. But I do know the one who can calm it. I pray that you will be able to find some calm and peace in the midst of your mess. That you will hang on to Jesus until it passes.
