Sometimes the things happening in the world around us are so overwhelmingly awful.

There are times when just watching the news or listening to current events around the World, is almost enough to make me want to move my family to a rural, secluded area, and lose touch with the World outside.

But, then I  find myself wondering; ‘Is that how God would want me to react?’

I don’t believe it is. In fact, I know in my heart that it is not.

While thinking about sharing my thoughts and fears in this post, I decided to look to the wisdom of Mother Teresa’s powerful thoughts and words to help me sort out my feelings on this matter.  Here are my 4 favorite Mother Teresa quotes with regard to the World:

  • “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.” – Mother Teresa
  • “If you judge people, you have no time to love them.” – Mother Teresa
  • “What can you do to promote world peace? Go home and love your family.” – Mother Teresa
  • “We cannot do great things on this Earth, only small things with great love.”  – Mother Teresa

Okay Lord, I hear that I am not to hide from the World, but rather attempt to make it better. I am so thankful that I am blessed with enough to make the World better for someone, anyone.

And along with the small acts of kindness and giving that I have to offer, a larger offering that I may give the World is prayer.

Ephesians 6:18 (NIV)

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

Paul says above, to pray for “all the Lord’s people.” One of the most powerful gifts that I have to offer to this hurting World, is prayer.

So, when I am terrified by the things going on in the World around me, why not combat that fear by praying, even more, for the all the people of the World?

Prayer is so very powerful. Imagine what might happen if each of us prayed longer and stronger for the World, each time that we were fearful about something going on in the World.

When I pray, the worries on my heart dissipate. Not only am I relieved from fear by prayer, but also peace comes over me and I am confident that peace is also granted upon whomever or whatever I pray about, in some way.

Let us cover this broken World with prayer! Let us all put down our fears, as we kneel powerfully together and repeatedly call upon the healer of all, the maker of the Universe; to help this land and to use us each to make a difference in any way, large or small, that we are able.

May we spread our blessings, both in opportunities to give and through gestures of love, far an wide, and in Jesus name!

Lord, hear our prayers for this broken World. Grant us the ability and continue praying fervently for all of your people! Amen.
