“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7 ESV”
These are pretty much some of my favorite verses in the Bible. They tell how important prayer is in our lives. When we pray, His peace comes and guards our hearts and minds. I don’t know about you, but I can always use some peace on my mind!! Sometimes I don’t pray like I should and I let my worries and anxieties get the best of me. But over the last year, my prayer life has gotten better and I’ve been accessing that peace more and more. There are a couple of things that have really helped me do that.
Last year, I became a part of a prayer circle with six other women. At first, it was just for a couple of months. But at the end of that time, we decided we would continue our little circle. And I can tell you that results in our lives have been amazing!
What’s a prayer circle? Well basically it’s just seven women texting each other encouragement and prayer requests. And then the praise report when the prayer is answered. It’s based off the book the Circle Maker by Mark Batterson. It’s a very simple concept that has life changing effects.
At first our prayer requests started out kinda generic, because we didn’t know each other that well. But as time went on, our requests have gotten honest and vulnerable.
Praying hasn’t always been my strong suite. I’ll read my Bible all day long, but prayer just doesn’t always happen. So this prayer circle has been great motivation to kick me into gear. Because if you tell someone you are praying, you better be praying! They are counting on you! These are real life needs and they don’t just need lip service prayers.
I love the promise James tells us about prayer:
“Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”
James 5:16 ESV
Another thing that has really helped me with my prayer life is writing down my prayers and then writing down when they are answered. I’ve been using a prayer journal and it’s a great reminder of God’s faithfulness. I can look back over different months and see how God came through and met my needs. Sometimes we forget our prayers or the answers, but when we write them down, we can go back and be reminded of His faithfulness!
Let’s let 2018 be the year that we take our prayer lives to the next level!! Think about how different this year can be if we are praying consistently! Grab yourself some sisters and form a prayer circle! You won’t regret it!!
