The average labor time for first time mothers is about 14 hours! I remember when I was about 14 watching “A Baby Story” on TLC, and hearing the screams of mothers during delivery. It was around that age I decided that I would opt out of motherhood. I figured that I would grow up, travel and possibly get a dog to fill the void of opting out of not wanting a child. Even in my early 20’s, I remember responding to the question of “Do you want any kids?” With my adult-ish response, “no, I’d rather not. God has called some for parenthood, but not others…I’m apart of the others.”; but to be honest, I wanted to avoid the pain of labor. The pain of labor was and still is frightening!
I actually thought being a mother was amazing, and even hoped (and still hope) that I am called to motherhood, but the depths to get there are quite scary. Isn’t it funny that we run from the very things that we want, because of the fear that we may have to go through to get it? When you sit back and think about the birth of Jesus, its easy to forget about everything that Mary and Joseph went through to birth Jesus.
Luke 2:6-7, explains that both Mary and Joseph had to travel to Bethlehem, and while there “the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them”. That’s great! Mary gave birth to Jesus, the Son of God; but we sometimes forget the rumors of adultery that she had to endure when she became pregnant with Jesus, the fear that Joseph would leave her in the midst of the rumors and neglect of actually believing the Word that was brought to him, and the horrible conditions that she had to give birth in due to overcrowding of an Inn.
All of this happened, so that the world could have a just chance at forgiveness!
Life hurts sometimes. Situations arise and its hard to truly believe that it will lead to something amazing, but we will never know that if we run away from pain. The outstanding thing about God is, He will turn any horrible, painful, downright insane situation that you thought would kill you; into something beautiful!
So, my dearest love, don’t run from your divine destiny just because the process may be painful.
