Faith the Size of a Mustard Seed
“You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’, and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.” Matthew 17:20
We all have read this verse several times and know about the parable of the mustard seed but how does it really portray in our lives. My faith was really tested this week (Nov. 8). After taking my daughters for their yearly physicals, we received some very startling news. It began with the hearing tests, my 17 year old couldn’t hear all the beeps in her right ear and then my 12 year old couldn’t hear anything in her left ear. The whole time I was like, Okay this is just a hiccup in our lives, God’s got this. Well, then my 12 year old has her back checked, she has mild scoliosis, and her doctor is concerned about it and leaves the room to go look at her X-rays from 6 months ago. After a few minutes, she returns with the main doctor at the practice we go to. He proceeded to look at my daughter by examining her skin, her joints, her back and etc. Then the bomb was dropped. He proceeded to tell me that he is referring her to a Pediatric Rheumatologist because he believes she may have Ehler Danlos Syndrome. My heart hit the floor. He says she is showing some of the symptoms but wants to be sure that is what is going on.
My faith has been tested and tried so hard this week. I cried, prayed and called out to God, “hasn’t this child been through enough in the past year, can she not catch a break.” It was then that God reminded me of the parable of the mustard seed. If I just have the faith in Him and trust Him then all things will work out for His good, not mine, not my daughters, but God’s. This is just another mountain that God wants us to climb and we have to believe that whatever the outcome maybe, it is the outcome that God wants for our family.
The one other thing that keeps coming to mind is Veggie Tales, “God is bigger than the boogeyman, He’s bigger than Godzilla or the monsters on TV, oh God is bigger than the boogeyman and He’s watching out for you and me!”
God is on our side!
