The Lord raises up Judges.

“The Lord raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of those who plundered them (Judges 2:16 ESV)”. In the book of judges, we get a front row seat to the redemptive story of God’s love towards Israel. This key verse sticks out because here God is raising up people to help Israel defeat their enemies even though they have turned their back on God over and over and over and over again.

A few verses before, we see Israel’s state as a nation, “And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals (Judges 2:11)”. They were living amongst pagan nations and people who didn’t serve the Lord but instead serve other gods. Instead of shining God’s light, they were doing what was evil in the sight of the Lord. They were aiming to please society and turned their back on God.

And even though they were acting this way, God raised up judges.

The Lord raises up judges.

Nowadays, this might look a little different, the Lord might not literally send someone to fight for us and go into war for us in the physical way but God fights for us in the spiritual realm.

The Lord raises up a spiritual leader who goes before us and fights the spiritual battles. That spiritual leader is the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit equips us with an armor to be able to stand tall in the midst of whatever situation we may face.

Just like Israel turned away from God, sometimes, we can relate to them when we decide to turn away from The Lord ourselves. We may think that we can take the world on our own hands, only to find out we were wrong and end up hurt in the process.

Even though, Israel turned away the moment they cried out to The Lord He was merciful towards them and raised up Judges.

I pray that we may be strong enough to put on God’s armor, so that we may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil (see Ephesians 6:10-20). And if we may feel that we cannot tap into that armor of God that we may be willing to cry out to the Lord and wait in His presence knowing that He will raise up judges to fight for us, to defend us, because we are His chosen people and He cares for us.

Sister, if you find yourself in a tough situation where you may feel as if you cannot continue moving forward, I pray that you give that situation to the Lord and trust that He will raise up judges to bring you out of that situation ten times stronger and ten times wiser.
The Lord cares for us, He cares for me and He cares for you. He only wants our heart to be bound to Him. Sometimes it is hard to focus and center our thoughts and desires in Him but no matter what we try or what we do to calm our hearts, nothing will work if it’s not God himself working in our lives.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him…

…In love, he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will (Ephesians 1:3-6)”.

So, daughter of the King, you are chosen, qualified, and more than worthy to be fought for by the creator of the Universe, who cares about you and has paid a high price for you.
