“Even now, take your stand and see this great thing which the LORD will do before your eyes.” I Samuel 12:16

There are times in this life when we rush into situations thinking that we know what to do or that we can overcome our situations by ourselves.

There are times when we feel defeated by our circumstances and believe that there’s no way we can overcome the odds against us.

That’s when we need to stand still and watch the LORD at work in our lives.

When the Israelites were being pursued by the Egyptians, they had nowhere to go – the armies were behind and the Red Sea was before them. At this time Moses said unto the people:

“Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will show to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen today, ye shall see them again no more forever.” (Exodus 14:13).

Like the Israelites we need to stand still and let the LORD fight our battles.

Sometimes we forget that “… the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.”(2 Chronicles 16:9)

Instead we think He’s like us – weak with limited power. The enemy is always willing to let us believe that we are in our difficulties alone and that we will be there for the rest of our lives. That old trickster wants us to forget that “the LORD’S hand is not so short that it cannot save; nor is His ear so dull that it cannot hear.” Isaiah 59:1-2. That old liar would have us forget that “[God’s] strength is made perfect in [our] weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

Today, as we go through the day let us remember that “the battle is not ours, it’s the LORD’s”. Stand still and watch as He does battle on your behalf.

“Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.” (Psalms 31:24)
