I remember going to the fish market as a little girl along with my dad in one of my prettiest dresses. It was located near the Arabian Sea, and the stench of fishes were unbearable after a minute of standing in the market. My mom would cut and clean the fishes repeatedly in vinegar water until the water was clear, and fishes were ready to cook.
A pretty attire had no place to be in an area filled with dead stinky fishes. I still recall the smell coming from the fisherwomen selling the fishes, and it was completely different from the scent of Versace or Burberry. Today, I wonder how is it that my Lord was not ashamed to walk besides the fishermen at sea. Jesus walked, talked, and called these fishermen to be fishers of Men.
The Most Holy God is not ashamed to walk with us, but are we walking with Him filled with stench or scent today?
Daughters, how strong is the stench of sin in our life?
Just like the people started noticing the stench coming from the grave of Lazarus, have people started to notice the day, month, and year-old stench coming from within us?
When we choose to live in sin and break God’s laws, the stench makes us unclean to approach a Most Holy God, who knew no sin.
Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.(Psalm 51:2)
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. (psalm51:7)
David knew the only person who could wash away his sins was the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. Jesus is not ashamed to be called your God, so come to Him just as you are.
Let us therefore confess our sins, and boldly approach the throne of God
Here are 3 ways God wants every Christian woman to spread pleasant Scent for Him on this earth:
- Scent of selfless Love : Jesus is the very picture of selfless love. The One and Only God of this Universe, who laid down His life for selfish creation as ourselves. Jesus loved us while we were still sinners, and took upon Himself the stench of our sin. The fragrance of His unconditional love should continue to flow from us to the rest of the world. A selfless love produces a pleasant scent.
Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good. Romans 12:9,NASB)
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13,KJV)
- Scent of sacrifice: The aroma that comes from a repentant heart is the sacrifice that God is looking for. It should be giving our self as a Living sacrifice, and dying to self. In Luke 7: 36-38, we read about this immoral woman who performed the greatest act of worship for the Most Holy God by breaking the most expensive alabaster perfume. It is the kind of worship the Lord desires from each one of us- a worship of daily sacrifice of “SMELLY ME” and replacing it with “Fragrant Jesus”.
Today, our God is interested in our heart above all the rituals we perform to please HIM.
- Scent of Sincerity: As daughters of the Highest our words and actions must always be seasoned with sincerity so it can fill our homes and community with very fragrant scent of our Savior.
For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ. (2 Corinthians 2:17, KJV)
For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; God is witness (1 Thessalonians 2:5,KJV)
We must also avoid flattering speech, gossiping, slandering, and vain babblings as God is forever our witness and speak the truth with love with one another.
God is seeking for a righteous believer and knoweth our thoughts from afar, therefore we must adorn the scent of sincerity when we say we love our fellow sisters and brothers in Christ.
Until we meet again here next time
Adorning myself with His Scent,
