28 Her children rise up and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:

Proverbs 31:28English Standard Version (ESV)

Why yes, I think we have all heard of the Proverbs 31 woman. This is such a known proverb with women of faith because simply said, she is the perfect model of what a wife, and mother should look like. Some women will look at this chapter and wince at the fact that this woman embodies servitude, others will feel disappointed because they don’t measure up, yet some will dare to take this Proverb and see themselves in it and as a guide for self-examination.

I like to be positive so I am the latter one. This proverb points to all of us. That our role as wives and mothers is one that is important and carries a lasting influence. My friend, if you truly read this proverb and put aside your reservations I am sure you will see that this woman is you, some of the attributes you might still need to work on but nevertheless it is you.

She is loyal, she does her husband good all the days of her life. She practices servitude along with providing for her family’s needs. She is kind to the poor and giving. We read that she is clothed with fine linen so surely the Lord has blessed her financially but she keeps humble.

This proverb 31 woman is you. As you take care of your kids, go to work and give to the needy. Do you own a business? Well it reads that that she makes tapestry and supplies to merchants, sounds like an entrepreneur to me. Above all she loves the Lord, and that is the most important thing of all. All I am saying is that this woman could easily be you. Don’t sell yourself short and don’t go with the group of people that say this woman is there to put us women to shame, that’s not true. See yourself in this proverb and rejoice in the fact that your children will call you blessed and your husband will praise you.
