Dear girl at church today,

I saw you standing there this morning while everyone else around you was praising and singing, you stood there staring at the words as they flashed on the screen. You stood there looking empty while everyone else was filled with the spirit around you.Tears ran down your cheeks as you squeezed them tighter together and lifted your hands every so slightly, palms facing up. In fact, that is all you did, stand there while everyone else around you was dancing and singing. You seemed to be in a trance, joy was buzzing all around you ; but you were silent and still.

I want to tell you while it may have looked to others that you didn’t care enough to worship God this morning, I know better. I want to tell you that it is okay that it felt like cement in your throat and you physically could not get the words out to sing. It is okay that as you heard the lyrics proclaiming God’s love and faithfulness, you couldn’t bring yourself to feel it enough to sing it. I want to tell you that it is okay to not feel every word of every song because even though we believe it we don’t always feel it.

I want to tell you there is beauty in your surrender of things you cannot control and God is with you-The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18 (NIV). You don’t have to FEEL that God is faithful right now because you KNOW He is –If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself. 2 Timothy 2:13. You don’t have to FEEL that God is loving right now because you KNOW he is. It is okay that you couldn’t bring yourself to sing “You’re a Good Good Father” because even if you don’t feel it, He still is-We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. Hebrews 6:19. It is okay that you didn’t sing at church today sweet friend, God sees you and He loves you.

Now how do I know that’s the reason you didn’t sing today? Because that girl was me. It is me. I don’t feel like singing, I don’t feel like praising. But as Paul says we need to give thanks in ALL circumstances. We are giving thanks to God for Him being God not for the circumstances we are in-give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Sweet friends, I don’t know what you’re facing today. I don’t know what mountain is ahead of you or what valley you are in, all I know is that our feelings (which come from the heart) are fleeting and deceitful. They do not stand a chance against the character of God. Don’t let how you feel about your circumstances change your belief of who God is.This is as much of an encouragement for you as it is for me. Join me in praying even when we don’t feel like it, singing when we rather stay silent and giving thanks when we rather feel sorry.
