Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9 (NIV)

The Lord is my strength and my defense; He has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him. Exodus 15:2 (NIV)

Recently, I have gone through the loss of a friend and also a friend of mine has lost her dad. Loss is a part of life that we don’t like to think about most of the time. As I have been thinking about loss and how we deal with it, I have looked to the Bible for strength. The verses above are ones to meditate on while going through the tough times of loss.

The Lord commands us to be strong and courageous which doesn’t mean you aren’t sad or don’t cry. It means that you KNOW the Lord is in control and He is your Saviour. You know in those moments of despair that the Lord is holding you and comforting  you. When Satan whispers in our head and tells us there is no hope or no reason for joy, the Lord is with us wherever we go.

The second verse found in Exodus was a favorite of my friend. She battled cancer 3 times in her life starting at the age of 5. She always had an encouraging word to say and would live out her life without fear. She could do this because she knew that the Lord was her salvation and her God. She praised in all circumstances. She taught me a lesson to always trust in the Lord no matter the circumstances. She praised in her marriage, in the birth of her kids and also in the midst of chemo.

No matter what we are going through in our lives. If we feel all is right with the world or our life is in chaos, we can Praise the Lord.
