I’ve been thinking about Noah and his story, a lot lately. I’ve even been singing that children’s song I learned at Vacation Bible school when I was young. For some reason, it has just stuck in my head. Noah’s faith is one of the most known stories in the Bible. I want to have faith like Noah.
In Genesis 6, you see the story of Noah begin to unfold. Genesis 6:8-9 says, ” But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.”. You see, before this time, the world had gone upside down. There was sin and lawlessness over all the land. The Lord couldn’t find anyone he found favor with until he came upon Noah. At this point Noah is over 500 years old and his story was just now unfolding.
All throughout Genesis 6, the story continues to unfold. The Lord tells Noah to gather his three sons and their family, he tells Noah to build a big boat. Many in the days of Noah thought he was crazy, but Noah followed the Lord’s command. Noah was 600 years old when the flood came; and after 40 days of flooding, the rain stopped. Genesis 8 says, “The Lord remembered Noah”, and God let the waters dry up.
We think at 20, 25, 30 or 45 our story is supposed to have already been unfolded. The Lord’s timing is not our timing. He is waiting for the exact right moment to unfold your story. Just as it says in Genesis about Noah, the Lord remembers you. In Deuteronomy 31:8 it says, The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.
Wherever you are in your life, you are in the midst of the Lord’s story unfolding for your life. Have faith like Noah. He had faith and was rewarded for his faith. Now, our story might not be as “big” as Noah’s, but our story has an influence in our circle of life. Have faith and influence others around you to do the same.
