May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 (NIV)
Hope is a powerful thing. As I write this, it’s the new year and hope abounds. We hope for a better year in many areas of our lives. We make New Year’s resolutions in hopes of succeeding those goals.
But if we look at this verse, it says the God of HOPE. Hope is a given. We have been given hope in God. We have hope so that we can be filled with ALL joy and peace. Do you have joy and peace? We sometimes mix up happiness and joy. Joy comes from within no matter the circumstances. Joy is there when happiness is not necessarily there. Peace is there in Christ. Peace is also there despite the circumstances.
Then we get to the second half of the verse, “so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit”, and what does that mean in our lives? So that we may overflow? So if we have hope, joy and peace what are we supposed to overflow? Hope, Joy and Peace. Through help by the Holy Spirit we have to overflow the hope, joy and peace. What do we do in our daily lives that we can overflow these things? We serve our family, we check out at the grocery store, we eat out, we come in contact with A LOT of people that need the HOPE, JOY, and PEACE that we have through the Holy Spirit within us. My challenge for you today is to overflow. Pour out all the hope, joy and peace you have to those around you that need it. Let it be for your family and your community. Overflow Jesus everywhere.
