God has been speaking to me a lot about following His plans and being a servant of God, not because you have to, but because you love Him.
“For we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10
It’s really hard following God’s plan, but this verse gives me so much encouragement. We are God’s workmanship. He created us and put a plan in us before our parents even thought of us. It takes a lot of prayer and spending time with God to figure out what He wants us to do and where we should go, and that is something that I have been learning.
Serving God and following His plan isn’t something that we should do because we have to do it, it should be something that we do because we love God. Sometimes we do things out of guilt, for example, serving the Lord by teaching kids at church because, “I have to do, if I don’t I feel guilty,” is not a reason why we should be doing anything. That is why spending time with God and praying is so important. Learning and talking to God helps us fall more in love and have a deeper relationship with God. Doing things and being with God shouldn’t be on a “to-do list,” but something we love coming to, because we love God.
“If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who sent greater than he who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.” John 13:14-17
Something really amazing about Jesus, is He knew what was going to happen. He knew why He was sent down to earth. But, He always said, “Thy will be done.” He followed His Fathers plan. He came down, served others and died so that we may live. He is the perfect example on how we should live. We should live, serve others, and show His love to everyone around us.
“If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.” John 12:26
Isn’t that beautiful? God will honor us because we spent time and served Him while we lived.
One of my favorite reminders is, that Christian isn’t a religion, it is a relationship with our God who sent His only Son to die for us. Being a Christian does not mean we have to do these things, we do these things because we love God.
