Scriptures for the New YearThe new year always seems to motivate people to change and do new things. That motivation quickly fades away for most. Thankfully God is not motivated by the arrival of a new year. He is always doing a new thing in the heart of those who let Him in.  I want to be more like God who is not swayed by time or the pressure to change that a new year brings. I want my heart to change so that I am constantly making changes to be like God and who He created me to be. Staying in the word will help me (and you) to do this! Below are some scriptures for the new year that will help motivate us to change in God’s time not because of a countdown.

Revelation 21:5  (NIV) He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

Ezekiel 11:19  (NIV) I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.

With the commitment to make changes comes the pressure to not fail. Thankfully, again, God is not like us. Because of His great Love we do not have to be “consumed” by this world and the things we perceive as failures. We can trust that His “compassions never fail” and that they are “new every morning”. When we choose to live life according to God’s word and His timetable by being obedient… we can’t fail because He won’t fail us.

Lamentations 3:22-23  (NIV)

22 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
23 They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.

People set their hopes high at the start of a new year. As if the new year starting some how changes everything. We must be careful to only place our hope in the Lord. The world will let us down. Friends and family will as well. We will let ourselves down too. We need not wait for a new year to hope in something. No matter the day we can hope in the Lord and His promises for us.

Micah 7:7  (NIV)

7 But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord,
I wait for God my Savior;
my God will hear me.

Isaiah 43:19-21 (NIV)

19 See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.
20 The wild animals honor me,
the jackals and the owls,
because I provide water in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland,
to give drink to my people, my chosen,
21 the people I formed for myself
that they may proclaim my praise.
