You talk about someone who is a Christmas fanatic that is me. I start planning in August and I LOVE all things Christmas. The entire month is filled with candy making, light going, giving, an abundance of love, cheer. It’s like ELF on crack in my house on Christmas time. My kids probably think I am crazy and they are only 3 and 5. We have so many things to go and do their heads are left spinning, but they are always taught a very important lesson in this month, giving is much more important than receiving. My boyfriend (bless his heart) is getting used to this, but he balances me out well, reminding me we should love like this all year, not just the time of year it is easier to do so. This got me thinking what would a Christmas love look like all year long? What if we were crazy passionate about loving people, helping people, and meeting needs 365 days a year the way we are 25 days of the year. What if we got to a point where we weren’t okay with seeing unfed kids, moms and dads without jobs, people on the side of the road needing help. What if we stopped being so busy for 5 minutes that we stopped our busy schedules and started helping. More than that what if we started making helping, giving, and loving well part of our schedules?
Psalm 82:3 says “Defend the weak and fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.” When are we going to open our homes and our hearts? 1 John 3:17-18 “If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.” (NIV)
As we go into this Christmas season our hearts are filled to the brim with excitement, happiness, joy, and so much more, let us go life to life and person to person to make sure all around us have that same experience not only through the Christmas season but through the year. Let us remember that while helping our neighbors through this season is so very important many of them continue to struggle when the presents are unwrapped and the tree goes in the basement. Whether you send prayers, bring a meal, give a listening ear, or do something like secretly pay a bill remember to always follow the Holy Spirits lead on these things. God bless and Merry Christmas!
