watercolour-1755736I am a wife, mom, daughter, sister, a friend, and a Christian, and more, I’m sure. I am a stay at home mom but I have also worked so I know both sides of the coin. My days right now consist of taking my child back-and-forth to school, back-and-forth to basketball practice, back-and-forth to his social events, and then also helping with stuff we do at church and then the regular wife/mom duties of cleaning, cooking, laundry, etc. Also add that we are about to start building a house. Whew I’m exhausted sometimes just thinking about it all!
So my life some days seems very ordinary and it’s just the day in day out, mundane things. Sometimes it can be hard to be thankful during those times. But I want to be. I want to be thankful that I have PE clothes to pick up off the floor and laundry and dishes, because I know that these days go by so quickly. I know one day I will not be driving to basketball games and practices. One day I will not be picking up those water bottles beside my teenage son’s bed. One day he will be off to college and then married and these days are going by super fast. So I want to be thankful when things seem plain and ordinary and everyday.
I know it can be hard to be thankful in the midst of dishes and laundry and dirty diapers! In the next few weeks, as this year ends, try to find days times throughout the day that you can be thankful. Maybe you’re washing your baby’s sippy and can be thankful for that child and what they are going to become, what God has in store for them. Maybe you’re washing sweaty gym clothes and you can be thankful for a healthy, athletic child. Maybe you’re picking up your husband socks off the floor and you can be thankful for that for the husband God has given you. You can be thankful for the home that you live in, or apartment as we are in. Thankful for the vehicle to drive back and forth to work. Thankful for the job God has given you so you can be a blessing for your family. Just take time and every day ordinary to be thankful. It will definitely help your outlook. I know it has helped mine!
“I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts. On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate. They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds, and I will declare your greatness. They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness and shall sing aloud of your righteousness. The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. The Lord is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made. All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord, and all your saints shall bless you! They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom and tell of your power, to make known to the children of man your mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations. [The Lord is faithful in all his words and kind in all his works.] The Lord upholds all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due season. You open your hand; you satisfy the desire of every living thing. The Lord is righteous in all his ways and kind in all his works. The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them. The Lord preserves all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy. My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord, and let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever.”
