learningtotrust

We are currently renting an apartment as we plan to build our house. Our building is pretty quiet. But when you are used to living on four acres in the woods, you hear every single noise. And our neighbors below us can be loud at times late at night. And I really, really like my sleep!

A couple of weeks ago I was super frustrated at them. I’ve prayed about the situation but it just seemed they were getting louder and louder! So I decided to take the situation into my own hands! And immediately I heard God saying, “Don’t you trust Me to handle this? Haven’t you prayed about it? Don’t you know I can do anything?”

Oh boy! He had me. I didn’t fully trust Him to handle the situation. I was frustrated & tired of waiting. Yes, this is really a small situation in the scheme of real life, but it’s important to me and important to Him! I have to trust Him in every moment of my life. Sometimes we want to take things into our own hands because He’s not working fast enough for us.

I’m reminded of Sarah’s story in Genesis. God had promised her and Abraham a son. But they were old, way past child bearing years. So instead of trusting and waiting, she took matters into her own hands. She gave her servant, Hagar, to Abraham and Hagar bore him a son(Genesis 16).

And then guess what happens??? Oh yeah several years later, Sarah gets pregnant & Isaac is born (Genesis 21). And a mess ensues. All because Sarah couldn’t wait on God. And the countries overseas today are still paying for this mistake!

Now obviously my situation isn’t as big as hers. But I have had bigger situations where I’ve handled them instead of waiting on God. Some of those times have cost me friendships. Some of those times have cost me financial blessings. So I totally know what it’s like to get ahead of God and mess it up!

But I’m thankful for His grace and mercy and understanding. Oh and guess what, my neighbors have gotten a lot quieter! Not because of anything I’ve done, but because I’ve waited, prayed, and allowed Him to intervene. And because I’ve let Him handle it, it’s being handled peacefully, without me getting involved or saying a word! And that truly is the best way!
